Rabbi Matondo is almost out of the door at Ibrox – and Cyriel Dessers could still follow him.
Matondo is closing in on a move to Coventry City, with an option to buy included in the deal. The Wales international moved to Ibrox in the summer of 2022 but has made just eight appearances in all competitions this season.
Rangers boss Philippe Clement announced last week that the club will have to sell players during this transfer period.
Following Alex Lowry's move to Wycombe, midfielder Kieran Dowell is looking for a new club, while striker Dessers could leave, with Leganes the latest side to show interest.
The Spanish club is currently fifteenth in La Liga and is working behind the scenes on a financial package that can probably seal the deal.
The Nigeria international claimed his first Ibrox hat-trick in a 5-0 defeat to Fraserburgh in the Scottish Cup.
However, supplanted by Hamza Igamane in the starting line-up, Dessers wants to play every week, with Cagliari, Empoli and St Etienne all getting interest to their names.
Leganes sporting director Txema Indias was keen to sign Dessers before the striker moved to Rangers. And Spanish publication AS claims that interest has now been revived.
While Rangers are looking to make some money from a permanent transfer, Leganes cannot afford the price. Happy to make a loan agreement, even that may be beyond them.
With Brazilian striker Danilo forced to see a specialist after picking up an injury during the recent win over St. Johnstone, Clement is reluctant to let Dessers go without an adequate replacement in place.
Despite falling down the pecking order, the 30-year-old has scored 16 goals in 33 games. And when asked whether he still saw a Rangers future for Dessers, the Rangers boss hedged his bets.
“That's a difficult question,” Clement said. 'If Cyriel leaves, you have to replace him. And it must have at least the same quality.
'We'll see what happens in the next two weeks. I know that when he is here he will give everything for the club. And if he leaves, he must be replaced by someone who has at least the same quality.'
Communication is key as Mailer brings a wealth of experience to Ibrox
Rangers' new communications chief Greig Mailer will start work at Ibrox in early April.
Mailer, previously head of marketing and communications at the SFA, had a brief spell at Hibernian before moving south to work on corporate communications with Rangers CEO Patrick Stewart at Manchester United.
Currently at English Premier League club Brentford, where he is director of corporate affairs, the Scot brings a wealth of experience at the sharp end of British football.
He will come to help with the messaging between chairman Fraser Thornton and Mailer's former Old Trafford colleague Stewart.
A return of the Rangers? For Joe, that's just not the case
Rangers fans should pay no attention to rumors of an Ibrox return this summer for Joe Aribo. It won't happen.
The midfielder moved from Glasgow to Southampton for £6million in 2023 and helped the south coast club win promotion to the Premier League last season.
With Saints currently bottom of the English top flight and destined to go straight back down, he will look to move on at the end of this season.
With a year left on his contract, Southampton believe they can recoup what they paid for him.
Although Rangers could extend the transfer fee for the player who scored in the 2022 Europa League final against Eintracht Frankfurt, the total package would be financially prohibitive.
The Nigeria international reportedly earns £70,000 a week and will not expect to earn a penny less in what will be his last major contract in the game.
With Rangers trying to reduce their wage bill while investing in younger players, a return for Aribo isn't even worth considering.
Istanbul could be a destination, with Besikta's long-standing admirers of the 28-year-old.
Unfulfilled talent Lowry has a lot to prove in England
Good luck to Alex Lowry, who left Rangers for the bright lights of Wycombe Wanderers earlier this week.
The 21-year-old signs for an undisclosed fee and joins a club challenging for promotion to the top of English League One.
But he leaves Rangers as an unfulfilled talent, and as a player whose poor attitude has cost him any chance at first-team level.
When Lowry first broke into the first team as a teenager a few years ago, he was seen as a player with huge potential.
He was a creative young attacking midfielder and his vision and guile looked to be a huge asset for Rangers in the years to come.
But after just 14 appearances for the senior team and a failed loan spell at Hearts last season, he has now been pushed out the door.
The talk at Rangers in recent years has focused on how Lowry's attitude has hampered his progress and his obvious ability.
This was something that was picked up at Hearts when he played under Steven Naismith last season.
During his time at both clubs, Mail Sport understands that punctuality was not a strong point. There were several times when Lowry was late for practices and team meetings.
During his 2023 speech, Lowry emphasized that sometimes his relaxed demeanor may simply have given the wrong impression.
He now heads to Wycombe as a young man with something to prove. Whatever he goes on to achieve in England, the penny never really dropped for him at Rangers.
Potter's dismissal during the Old Firm clash was nonsense
No wonder Rangers are appealing the decision to red card Jo Potter in last Sunday's Sky Sports Cup semi-final against Celtic.
The manager's dismissal early in the second half at New Douglas Park was so bizarre that it threatened to overshadow a 2-1 win that took them to a final against Hibs.
Two goals in three minutes, from Rio Hardy and Katie Wilkinson, had just put Rangers in control of the tie when the ball went out of play in front of the dugouts.
Potter, like many others, thought it was a throw-in for Rangers, tapped the ball up with her foot and held it behind her back as Celtic defender Emma Lawton approached.
Referee Abbie Hendry then walked over to Potter and waved a red card, presumably because she thought the Rangers manager was guilty of gamesmanship.
Potter later said she wanted an explanation from Hendry, one of 24 Scottish officials on FIFA's international list this year. The referee also booked the Celtic manager, Elena Sadiku.
“I'm not sure why I can't hold the ball on our throw-in and give the ball to my own player,” Potter said. 'I looked at the fourth official and she said: “It's yellow at most. It's not a red card.” The referee clearly didn't agree, because she quickly took the card out of her pocket. She looks a little funny when she puts it back in and changes it.”
If common sense prevails, the decision will be reversed and Potter will be left to reflect on the quality of her team's performance, culminating in Wilkinson's goal, a brilliant free-kick that sailed past the goalkeeper.
Lawton scored a consolation for Celtic but it was too late to change the outcome, continuing Rangers' promising start to the new year and giving them the chance to win the League Cup for a third season in a row.
Of course, if Caixinha can't get Windass, he'll turn to… Neymar!
Pedro Caixinha is an endless source of fascination for Rangers supporters, the media and anyone who interacted with him during his eccentric, ill-fated spell in charge at Ibrox.
The latest stop on the much-travelled Portuguese manager's endless global itinerary is Santos, where he has linked up with former Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos.
Caixinha recalled Morelos from a loan spell at Atletico Nacionale, but the player enjoyed his time at the Colombian club so much that he wants to return. He did not feature for Santos in the first two games of the season.
Then there's the Josh Windass story. Two weeks ago, Santos is said to have made a bid for the Sheffield Wednesday player, whose spell at Rangers several years ago included an accidental touchline tackle on Caixinha.
That offer was rejected and according to the latest information from South America, the Brazilian club have decided to drop their interest in Windass and pursue Neymar instead.
That's quite a turnaround for the books. Neymar has a lot to be proud of in his swashbuckling career, but being second choice to Josh Windass in the international transfer market is probably not one of them.
The 32-year-old Brazilian superstar joined Al Hilal from Paris Saint-Germain in 2023, but he has made so few appearances for the Saudi club, mainly due to injury, that he has not even been registered to play in their league.
Chicago Fire were linked with a move for the former Barcelona player, but Santos was his first club and an emotional return to Brazil at this stage of his career would be appealing.
Santos has submitted a formal proposal, Al Hilal is considering a response and Caixinha is wondering whether he will soon be working with one of the game's best and most expensive strikers.
The question is, can Caixinha convince one of his former Rangers players to team up with Neymar in Sao Paulo? With Morelos and Windass out of reach, who will he turn to next? Martyn Waghorn is rumored to be available after terminating his contract with Northampton Town.
