Rangers’ Dujon Sterling out long term with Achilles injury vs Athletic Club

Rangers Defender Dujon Sterling will undergo surgery on an Achilles injury that excludes him “in the long term”.

The 25-year-old was stretched on Thursday in their Europa League equal game with Athletic Club in Ibrox, forcing them to see the game with nine players after the early red card by Robin Propper.

Head coach Barry Ferguson says that he was “destroyed” in the news, where Sterling only returns to action last month after a foot injury that forced him to miss 12 games.

“He will be long -term, he is a serious one,” Ferguson told Sky Sports News.

“He came in and I think he has been immense for me at the back. He has had his injury problems and now he will have to suffer for a long time on the sidelines, which I have been destroyed

“But listening, that's football, we have to go on. We'll come around Dujon because he is a popular member of the dressing room.

“He has been a big player for me and we just have to ensure that we get it fit again as quickly as possible.

'I don't know exactly [how long he will be out for] But I mean the long term. I am not a medical expert, but I spoke with the doctor, he will go an operation on Monday and we just have to wait and see how that operation goes. “
