The 73-year-old was appointed Roma head coach in November, shortly after Ivan Juric was sacked when he retired for another spell in management that he would surely have missed.
Before joining the Italy squad, Ranieri turned down an offer from Chelsea when the club decided to part ways with Mauricio Pochettino at the end of last season, but he has now revealed he rejected the proposal outright.
“No one has a magic wand. I was asked to put things back in place, also as an advisor.
“They had already asked about me at Chelsea, but I said no. In England I don't have the connections that I have here, that I need to do things right.
“Roma is my life, and now that I have more experience, I am vaccinated against any situation. It is also the realization of a childhood dream, of someone who has been in the Curva Sud.
“I also like this dual role, between coaching and management.”
Ranieri managed Chelsea for four years at the turn of the century and after miraculously lifting the Premier League trophy with Leicester City in 2016, it would have been interesting to see how he would have adapted to life at the club compared to the new manager. Enzo Maresca.
