Claudio Ranieri repeated that he will retire at the end of the season and excluded a number of names, but now reveals that Roma is 'close to choosing our new coach'.
The veteran retired in October as Roma's third tactician of the Na Daniele de Rossi and Ivan Juric campaign.
The change was amazing and went to Vechten Van Zwven over the relegation zone for a top four finish.
Despite the fact that everyone from players and fans to the club hierarchy asks him to reconsider, Ranieri is adamant to retire at the end of this season and pass on the baton to a new boss.
“We are very close to choosing our new coach,” Ranieri has now told the Messaggero newspaper.
They only released a short progress from the interview he has given and will be in Thursday's edition.
Ranieri keeps Roma -fans guessing replacement
He had already surprised many by announcing that Gian Piero Gasperini from Atalanta, who at the time was heavily connected to the Stadio Olimpico bank, would not be their next boss.
This week, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag dismissed the Trigoria training field and dinner with Ranieri and Mats Hummels, but his representative assured that it was not with a view to the track.
Roma will be confronted opposite Lazio in the Della Capital derby on Sunday evening and Ranieri hopes to defend his remarkable record.
“I am glad I won Derbies, but that is all water under the bridge. Just like the game with Juventus is in the past,” Ranieri told Il Messaggero.
“My mind is now on the next derby. We have to do well, our fans give some satisfaction and fight hard.”
