Barcelona was in a hot chase by Nico Williams in July last year, with many expecting Raphinha to be sold to finance the move. After two underwhelming seasons from the Brazilian it seemed that the story was written on his Stint in Barcelona, but few believed that he could turn it around.
Now that Vice-Captain of the club, at the choice of his colleagues, Raphinha is one of the most effective players in Barcelona under Hansi Flick. He has unveiled Globo Esporte (via MD) that he is indeed considering an exit from the club for a phone call from Hansi Flick.
“It wasn't going well. I came from a season that was under my expectations, and I saw people who asked me to leave, which was not good for the club. Every day there was news that I would leave. I finally thought about it.
The 28-year-old explained that this was decisive to turn things around for the Blaugrana.
“This was an important point in my decision to stay. Speaking with my wife, I told her that if Flick was a honest guy and the players would discuss their dedication in training, he would give me a week to show myself as a player and that he would not regret it. I think it was worked.”
One of the most striking parts of his game has since been his tireless conviction.
“The mental aspect is even more important than just taking care of your body. If your mind is wrong, your body will not respond as it should. Halfway through last season, after my injury, I strengthened my mental work with a psychologist.”
Raphinha, who has 50 goals and helps this season in his 47 performances for Brazil and Barcelona, the last against Colombia. He was tipped as one of the favorites for the Ballon d'Or this year, and continued commenting that only in the discussion is a victory in itself. Raphinha is one of a number of players who have reversed things under Flick, and the German coach is also credited with the revival of Frenkie de Jong in shape.
