The future of Marcus Rashford in Manchester United looks uncertain after he had fallen out with manager Ruben Amorim before he was sent on loan to Aston Villa, where he has shown a glimpse of his old self
There is still a scenario in which Marcus Rashford could play for Manchester United again – but it means that Ruben Amorim is not the manager at Old Trafford next season. Amorim is said to have rubbed his hands with joy at seeing Rashford who fired Aston Villa in the FA Cup-Halve final at the weekend, only a few days after he had come out of the international wilderness with England.
And he probably had pound plates in his eyes at the same time. Do not think that the United Boss thinks that a romantic return to the fold for the Mancunian is on the cards.
As far as the smiling murderer is concerned, Rashford played his last game for him when he was rejected against Viktoria Plzen on December 12 with United down and bored. Rasmus Hojlund replaced him – and scored twice to win the game.
Unless Amorim is being fired or resigned this summer, the 426th performance of Rashford in a united shirt was his last. But the Portuguese would still be happy to see the winger score twice in Villas 3-1 victory in Preston on Sunday. He needs so much money if he can get hold of this summer to rebuild his team, because the Bottom Line says that United is skint.
The suggestion that Real Madrid is ready to pay £ 90 million for Bruno Fernandes, just a few weeks before the captain celebrates his 31st birthday, Bernabeu -Insiders checked the calendar to see if all Dwazelsag had been brought forward this year.
Rashford, together with Alejandro Garnaacho, remains the most salable possession of the club-all that Amorim does its best to damage his value by suggesting that he would rather put his 63-year-old goalkeeper coach in the team.
The hope of United to get the £ 70 million they wanted in January is perhaps optimistic in view of the damn task reference of Amorim. But profit and sustainability rules mean that they will get full value of the money they bank for a homegrown player.
They will also save around £ 50 million in wages, since Rashford is left for three years at £ 325,000 a week's contract. United will hope that the seeds of Vorm have planted the 27-year-old into slightly more substantial than a few more English caps.
Villa is confronted with PSG in the Champions League and Crystal Palace in the FA Cup – and a half final – and that means that Rashford is good and really in the shop window.
If Rashford's actions speak louder than the words of Amorim, a summer auction can break out. How else will United raise decent money? Not by selling Antony or Jadon Sancho.
When Ashworth warned his bosses that the profile of the United team would make life difficult for Amorim, he probably had Rashford in mind. The Portuguese are married to a three-at-the-back formation that asks the wingbacks to offer offensive width.
Ashworth knew that a team that included Rashford, Antony, Garnacho and Amad Diallo should be drastically renovated.
His reward for expressing that opinion had to be fired as the first sports director of the club after less than six months. Rashford can still become a vital player for United – but simply not as he ever dreamed.
