Marcus Rashford will join Barcelona with an option to buy, but it is unlikely that the La Liga Giants can register the Manchester United star immediately
Marcus Rashford is about to get on loan at Barcelona, but the 27-year-old will get a nervous wait to see if he can be registered. Rashford joined Aston Villa on loan for the second half of last season after he was frozen in Manchester United by Ruben Amorim.
United wanted to sell Rashford this summer, but he is ready to move to Barcelona with an option to buy. The Spanish giants have dealt with financial problems in recent years and have difficulty registering new signing sessions.
Dani Olmo, who came back to Barcelona last summer, received a temporary registration license last summer that was withdrawn at the end of the year after La Liga claimed that the club had not proven that they met their financial rules.
Olmo was only allowed to play after the Spain's National Sports Council ruled in April 2025 that La Liga's decision was “Null and Ledig”. Barcelona also has to officially register keeper Joan Garcia with La Liga after his move from Espanyol.
They are unable to register new players until the space is made in the budget for their wages and that has not yet happened for Garcia. As a result, Rashford will be in the same boat as soon as his move is completed.
The attacker was linked to a number of other clubs throughout Europe, but made it clear that he wanted to become a member of Barcelona. When asked if he would like to play next to Barcelona Lamine Yamal, Rashford told the Spanish influencer Javi Ruiz: “Yes, sure.
“Everyone in the world wants to play with the best. So hopefully we will see. (Yamal) will be … It is difficult to put into words what he does because he should not do it at 16, 17. He plays at the highest level, I don't think we've seen it.
“To have his mentality is a skill. He is not normal to do what he is doing and he will continue to improve. Spain is fun, it's not far from home. If I train for a long period, my family can come for a few days, it is a nice location and good weather.”
And Barcelona boss Hansi Flick has previously described Rashford as “Fantastic Player”. Asked for a possible movement for Rashford or Liverpool -star Luis Diaz in May, Flick said: “This is what we talked about with the club.
“In the last games we may not have many options in that position … So we have to bring more options for the team and more quality. This is the task of Deco, is clear and I will support him.
“I don't want to talk about players who are not in my team, but of course Luis Diaz and Marcus Rashford are fantastic players. I like them and we will see what happens.”
