Rashford gets MU escape route from familiar face as Serie A giant plot loan move

AC Milan are interested in signing Marcus Rashford this month after the striker fell out of favor at Manchester United.

Rashford has not played for United since being dropped from the matchday squad for last month's 2-1 win over rivals Manchester City and the 27-year-old has admitted he is “ready for a new challenge”.

United want to offload him in the January transfer window but Rashford's £325,000-a-week wages have limited interest in his services. According to the Daily Mail, Milan are considering a loan.

Milan have struggled to score goals so far this season with top strikers Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic both injured. The club are currently eighth in Serie A, 17 points behind leaders Napoli, and Rashford's former teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic is said to have been 'tasked with finding solutions'.

Rashford's name is said to be in the mix and United are ideally looking to sell him for £40 million. However, the report adds that they are open to letting him leave on loan with an obligation to buy and that several clubs are interested in completing a deal.

Rashford has rejected approaches from Saudi Arabia and is said to prefer a move to Spain, but that is unlikely to happen this month. As a result, Milan have emerged as contenders to sign him.

After being sidelined by Ruben Amorim for three games in a row, Rashford returned to the bench for United's 2–0 defeat to Newcastle on 30 December, but was not used. Explaining his decision, Amorim said: “I think about the team.

“You [journalists] think about Marcus a lot. I think about the team. When I'm there, I don't make a big deal. I just want to win the game. And you feel it – I'm talking about the idea and the fight for relegation.

“Do I want to make a point during a match? No, I just want to win the match.” Rashford is understood to have missed training this week due to illness and it remains to be seen whether he will be in the matchday squad for United's next match.
