Rashford transfer latest: AC Milan expected to make formal approach for Utd star

AC Milan are expected to formally approach Manchester United over the signing of striker Marcus Rashford.

Milan advisor – and former teammate of Rashford – Zlatan Ibrahimovic has spoken publicly about wanting to speak to Rashford about a transfer.

Borussia Dortmund are also interested in the player, but it is thought a move could be too problematic for them due to wages. However, United maintain a positive relationship with Dortmund after loaning Jadon Sancho to them last season.

Sancho's move worked for all parties; he performed well for Dortmund and it is understood United have recovered all his wages during his time there.

Rashford's camp have spoken to a number of European clubs to explore terms of a deal. As it stands, it is believed that United's preference remains for a straight loan if they want him to leave.

Rashford was once again left out of the squad for the FA Cup third round against Arsenal on Sunday, which United won on penalties.

When asked if Rashford had played his last game for the club, United boss Ruben Amorim said: “I don't know. We'll see”.

While United accept they will have to pay a substantial portion of Rashford's wages, they will explore how the structure can be incentivized to ensure the deal works for them.

Rashford prioritized over Walker – Why can't Milan sign both?

Rashford is Milan's priority over Kyle Walker in the January transfer window, according to Sky in Italy.

Pep Guardiola confirmed this weekend that Walker and his representatives are 'exploring' his options after he informed outgoing sporting director Txiki Begiristain that he wants to move abroad. According to Sky in Italy, AC Milan contacted the defender some time ago in case Fikayo Tomori left the club, but his transfer was blocked by the arrival of new manager Sergio Conceicao.

It remains to be seen if things could be different this time and if the Rossoneri will try to sign his signature with Bayern Munich, having also been interested in the past.

Milan can only register one English player due to current Serie A rules.

Each season, Serie A clubs can register up to three non-EU players and one additional from Great Britain or Albania if they have no current non-EU players in their squad.

If they already have one or two non-EU players, they can add up to two non-EU players.

If they have more than two non-EU players, they can buy two more non-EU players, but one of them must have played in their national team in the previous twelve months.

Milan could only have bought two new non-EU players this season due to the number of spots already filled.

They did this in the summer with the acquisitions of Emerson Royal from Tottenham and Strahinja Pavlovic from Red Bull Salzburg. This means that Milan only has one extra spot available for a British (or Albanian) player.

Even if they sell a non-EU player, they still cannot sign another British player. This concerns one slot per registration period (season).

Leon must undergo medical treatment

Latest news from Dharmesh Sheth of Sky Sports News:

Diego Leon will undergo his medical at Manchester United today before finalizing a pre-contract deal for the summer.

Leon arrived in Manchester yesterday.

Once the deal is completed, the 17-year-old will return to his current club Cerro Porteno in Paraguay for the remainder of the season.

The left-back/left wing-back position is problematic for United given the injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia in the past 18 months.

As a result, they continue to monitor Nuno Mendes' situation at Paris Saint-Germain.

Talks about a new contract in Paris have so far not led to a solution and his current contract expires next summer.

Relations with PSG are said to be good after United signed Manuel Ugarte in August.

Betis and Olympiacos inquire about Antony

Real Betis and Olympiacos have both made inquiries to United about Antony.

The Brazil winger was an unused substitute in the third round of United's penalty shootout win over Arsenal in the FA Cup on Sunday.

United will consider offers for Antony, with the most likely deal being a loan. Betis are looking for a winger who have just sold Assane Diao to Como.
