Rayo Vallecano president Raul Martin Presa has done his best to put an end to rumors of James Rodriguez's departure in January. The Colombian star and this year's Copa America Player of the Tournament has barely played since joining Rayo this summer.
However, Rodriguez himself calmed down rumors of a disagreement between himself and the club or manager Inigo Perez. Rumors circulated in the Spanish capital that an interview in which he hinted he might not play because his style might not suit Perez's plans had not gone well in Vallecas.
“Bad? No, no, I'm doing well. Very well. The call-up against Madrid? Nothing, nothing… I'm not going to say anything.”
Rodriguez was left out of Rayo's squad for Real Madrid on Saturday, with Isi Palazon playing as a number 10 and excelling in that role. However, Presa said Rodriguez would stay for the rest of the season, as quoted by Diario AS.
“James is a Rayo Vallecano player and he will remain so.”
So far, the 33-year-old has played just 205 minutes, including just two starts, one of which came against lower league opponents in the Copa del Rey. Rodriguez attracted a lot of fanfare but struggled to impress Perez and has not played in La Liga for more than a month.
