Man United is a step closer to achieving one of their large summer transfer goals, with RB Leipzig who calls their price for Xavi Simons, according to reports from Germany.
Mail Sport revealed last week that the attacking midfielder was one of the many options in front of Ruben Amorim when approaching the summer window.
Man United wants to strengthen their ranks after a disappointing Premier League campaign that the club sees in 14th place with only five games to play.
Simons made a permanent switch from Paris Saint-Germain to Leipzig in January for £ 48 million plus add-ons, but could be sold for a quick profit this summer.
And Sky Germany Reporter Florian Plettenberg has claimed that Leipzig has set an asking price of £ 68.6 million for Simons for when the summer window is opened.
The versatility and age of Simons means that he has desired the profile for the Amorim system.
The 22-year-old Dutch international, who scored 10 goals this season and has delivered six assists, was also followed by Bayern Munich and Manchester City, while Liverpool has consistently viewed Leipzig this season.
With finances that are tight at Old Trafford while they fight against profit and sustainability rules (PSR), the signature of Simons is likely to depend on Man United who touches the Champions League jackpot.
Despite their bad domestic season, Amorim's are only three games from securing their place at the top table of European football after last week's dramatic quarterfinals over Lyon last week.
Next month they will be confronted with a two -legged semi -final against Atletico Bilbao. The winner of the Europa League will have a place in the Champions League that would be worth £ 85 million for Man United.
The season ends, however, it is a busy window in the summer transfer in Old Trafford with the club that likes to use deals for Ipswich striker Liam Delap and Wolves' Matheus Cunha van Wolves as quickly as possible.
Both players have a release clause – £ 62.5 million for Cunha and £ 30 million for Delap – and Man United hopes to have completed the conditions for the Brazilian next month, while they still have headroom under PSR.
Man United also hopes to sign Delap, but is confronted with increasing competition for his signature, since Chelsea and others are considering activating a release clause of £ 30 million that will be activated once the relegation of Ipswich from the Premier League is confirmed.
Victor Osimhen is another option, although the Napoli striker of £ 70 million would be the price twice.
