Thomas Frank made the perfect start of life as a Tottenham head coach while his side beat 2-0 in his first game that was in charge.
A lukewarm first half in the selected car -Leasing Stadium made way for a more competitive second, with goals from Will Lankshear and Summer Signing Luka Vuskovic sealing victory against the Sky Bet League One side.
Mohammed Kudus – a signature of £ 55 million from West Ham last week – was introduced after the break and made a brilliant impact, with one hand in both goals.
The first half had a clear sense of the season. Spurs had almost 70 percent possessed and lecture largely hinded shadows, although they did well to protect Joel Pereira's goal.
There were opportunities for the visitors; Dominic Solanke dangled a leg to meet a cross that ended with the ball on the roof of the net, before Pereira made a smart stop to deny Pape Matar Sarr on point-white range and then a Mikey Moore-shot struck that it looked intended for the right side.
Frank changed his team completely during the break, with the son of Heung-Min, Micky Van de Ven and Kudus among those to participate in the promotion.
In his first press conference on Friday, the DAN had suggested that he wanted to play an attacking brand of football, and that soon emerged.
There was a considerable goal for their game in the second half, which resulted in the opener after 49 minutes, when the corner of Kudus was contracted by Vuskovic to Lankshear, who went past Joel Pereira.
It was two within four minutes. Djed Spence moved the ball to Kudus, who took Vuskovic to sweep home clinically.
Reading acquitted itself well and had opportunities to get to the score sheet, especially in the last 10 minutes, when Guglielmo Vicario tipped an Ben Elliott shot over the bar before Ashqar Ahmed was denied with almost the last kick of the game.
