Real Betis have a significant number of ex-Barcelona players in their ranks, with a fluid passage of footballers between Catalonia and Sevilla taking place in recent years. They want to increase that quota in January.
According to Sport, Real Betis are interested in former Girona striker Pau Victor. The 22-year-old is loved by Betis' scouting department for his versatility, ability to connect with teammates and goal-scoring instincts.
However, Barcelona is unlikely to let him go. They will only consider a departure if Victor asks to leave, and he only plans to leave if the club insists on an exit. Still, Betis will do everything they can to convince him of a move before he turns his attention elsewhere and will sell him on the idea of a bigger role with Benito Villamarin.
Victor has scored twice and provided an assist in his 187 minutes, which are few and far between, but he was aware ahead of the season that playing time would be difficult to come by. Another factor holding up the deal is the fact that while Barcelona are struggling to register Victor for the second half of the season, Betis themselves have little margin in their salary cap. They could only agree to a loan deal, which would remove a lot of financial incentives from Barcelona.
However, Betis could also be helped by a possible departure in January. Second-choice goalkeeper Fran Vieites may look for pastures new, and striker Juanmi has failed to resolve his differences with manager Manuel Pellegrini. It is almost certain that he will leave in the winter transfer period, reports MD.
