‘Real fighter’ … Conor McGregor slayer calls Alexander Volkanovski featherweight GOAT

Dustin Poirier greets Alexander Volkanovski as the greatest featherweight to ever do it.

The former UFC-Fedegege Champion returns this weekend in an attempt to write more history on UFC 314. In the Five Round Main Event, his 10th-subsequent title fight, Alexander Volkanovski Battles #3 Contender Diego Lopes.

Lopes is six years younger, 5-1 in the UFC and the Brazilian almost submitted the undefeated Movsar Evloev in his UFC debut less than two years ago.

Apart from the Korean zombie, Volkanovski, 36, fought younger opponents against the entire legendary title line, who ended by Ilia Topuria last year by Ilia Topuria on UFC 298.

Dustin Poirier says Alexander Volkanovski Feeder Wain 'Goat' regardless of the UFC 314 result

Five title defenses and one title Unification under his belt, former UFC interim light weight champion (and a former featherweight itself) Dustin Poirier Labels Volkanovski the featherweight 'goat' victory or loses against Lopes.

“Returning the throne is enormously in his career, but his career has been closed off,” Poirier Volkanovski called the greatest featherweight of all time on a good guy / bad guy.

“The things he did in the featherweight division, a victory or loss do not change what he did.

“His track record, his championship, he is a legend anyway,” said Poirier.

What Dustin Poirier loves Alexander Volkanovski

Volkanovski's overall 'track record' rivals that of legendary Jose Aldo and other former featherweight champions such as Max Holloway and Conor McGregor, who both beat Dustin Poirier twice.

Aldo has seven successful title defenses, nine if you record WEC. Aldo was unbeaten for 10 years with victories over Frankie Edgar (X2), Chad Mendes (X2), the Korean Zombie, Urijah Faber and much more.

Volkanovski does not have as many title defenses as Aldo, but the level of competition with which he has had since Chad Mendes is quite surreal: Jose Aldo, Max Holloway (X3), Brian Ortega, the Korean zombie, Yair Rodriguez and Iliia Topuria.

'Alexander the Great' continues to add to his stacked CV with Diego Lopes.

“He is a real hunter,” Poirier said about the willingness of Alexander Volkanovski to fight everyone.

“The boys like that, I really appreciate it in sport.

“This guy comes from a number of heavy fights, and he jumps in with a young lion on a line, Headliner Miami. [Volkanovski] threw himself back in the fire. That's what I like about him. “
