Raul Asencio is a beacon of light for Real Madrid amid the club's crippling injury crisis. The 21-year-old has impressed since coming into the starting XI at the expense of Eder Militao, who tore his anterior cruciate ligament for the second time in 15 months.
Real Madrid would have been in serious trouble had Asencio not still been at the club, and they are fortunate that this is the case. According to Diario AS, the young defender received an offer from City Football Group over the summer.
€6 million was offered to Real Madrid, and if a deal had been done, Asencio would have gone to Girona. However, the player's desire to stay in the Spanish capital ensured that nothing ultimately came of it.
Real Madrid have been hugely impressed with Asencio and there are already plans for contract talks with his representatives at the end of the season. So there is a good chance that he will remain at the Santiago Bernabeu for a while.
