Real Madrid starts their preparations for the coming season 2025-26, which will start in just over two weeks. Four signing sessions have been added to the team of Xabi Alonso, and although they are all handed squad figures (apart from the Franco Mastantuono to be arrived), they are current players who have made a change.
Last week it was reported that Real Madrid had decided to change the Kylian Mbappe team. The French International took the number nine on his arrival from Paris Saint-Germain last summer, but the idea is that he will be handed over the iconic number 10, which was made available after the exit of Luka Modric.
Mbappe teased this a few days later, and now Real Madrid has made it officially that Mbappe is their new number 10, according to Marca. However, he is not the only first team player to change their team number, with Raul Asencio also making a swap.
Lucas Vazquez's number 17 remained empty at his departure after the World Cup Club, and according to Marca it was picked up by Asencio. The 22-year-old, who wore 35 during his Breakout season in 2024-25, is now registered with a first team number, which confirms that he is being counted by Alonso for the coming campaign.
The move from Mbappe to 9 to 10 means that the last song is still available, just like the number 25. As things are now, Gonzalo Garcia and Mastantuono are the only two players who are expected to have received no first team shirt next season.
It is still to be seen whether there is further movement – especially with regard to the number nine. Endrick and Gonzalo are candidates to take it, although there are opportunities for one of them to leave Real Madrid before the end of the summer.
