Real Madrid dealt blow amid plans to sell defender this summer

Real Madrid is about to make Benfica left back Alvaro Carreras their fourth signing of the summer transfer window, and he is expected to become the new starter of the club in the position. If he does, he will replace Ferland Mendy, whose future has attracted speculation in recent weeks.

In general, there are doubts about Mendy as a real Madrid player during his six years. He has very little attacking capacity, and although his defense is good, his level can sometimes be inconsistent. And now that he is 30, the decision has been made to replace him.

Mendy will be one of the three left backs in the Xabi Alonso team for next season, and as such is expected to leave Fran Garcia. Recent developments would suggest that he would be the one who leaves, but he will make it difficult for Real Madrid to sell him.

According to reports in France (via MD), Mendy is not planning to leave Real Madrid during this summer's transfer window. He believes that he is able to get Carreras better in the battle for the starting left -wing place, and he gets the chance to prove it during the pre -season, because he is set for a return to action after three months with a hamstring injury.

If Mendy digs his heels in it, Real Madrid has to decide to sell Garcia, which they prefer to keep as a backup to Carreras. The former Rayo Vallecano man has performed relatively well when he is called, although he is not considered a normal starter for Los Blancos as the required standard.

It will be interesting to see how the left -wing situation at Real Madrid will progress in the coming weeks. A sale would be wise, but at the moment it will be difficult to draw.
