Real Madrid are unlikely to make any business in the January transfer market, and their backline cannot afford to be weakened by any more losses, whether through injury or transfer. Yet Los Blancos have made it perfectly clear that they do not see the loss of Jesus Vallejo as weakening their chances at centre-back.
Carlo Ancelotti only used Vallejo for ten minutes all season in September and has not called on him since. He was scheduled to play in the Copa del Rey against Deportiva Minera, but missed that match due to injury. With just six months left on his contract, Los Blancos are prepared to end his decade-long spell at the club, having made just 32 senior appearances since joining.
However, Vallejo was reluctant to walk away from a lucrative contract, and the 28-year-old continues to prioritize serving his time at the Santiago Bernabeu, reports Relevo. This is evident from the fact that he rejected an offer from Turkish Trabzonspor. He is open to offers, but it seems more likely that he will finish the season in the Spanish capital.
Ahead of him in the pecking order are not only senior options Antonio Rudiger, Raul Asencio and the recently returned from injury David Alaba, but makeshift option Aurelien Tchouameni was also trusted ahead of Vallejo. Academy products Diego Aguado (17) and Jacobo Ramon (19) are also believed to have the edge over Vallejo, with the former playing against Minera in his absence.
Previous reports that Vallejo was looking to leave have been denied by his camp. After 3.5 years without playing regular football when he first went on loan to Granada, it seems likely he will be content to end the season with Real Madrid. He first joined the club in 2015, moving as a young talent from Real Zaragoza for €5 million.
