Carlo Ancelotti has had to rely on a number of Real Madrid's second-string players in recent weeks as their injuries continue to have a major impact on his squads. One of the beneficiaries is left back Fran Garcia, who now has a run of 5 starts in 7 games to his name.
This is due to a muscle injury to Ferland Mendy, but while the Frenchman's absence previously meant a shaky Garcia introduction, the 24-year-old Castilla product is starting to find his feet. According to Marca, the advice of the coaching staff is starting to reflect on his game and they are no longer afraid to use him.
In recent weeks, Garcia has started to make progress, as he did at Rayo Vallecano, without fear of his own mistakes or risks. Now he shows much more aggression when defending and wins his duels against the opposition. His team has worked hard with him in recent weeks to show Garcia that he must seize opportunities with both hands and do what he can in every match – something that has taken his game a step forward.
With Los Blancos potentially taking a step back in their pursuit of Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies, Garcia may be given extra time to establish himself at his hometown club. If they miss out on Davies, it seems likely that they will go for another option, but given Garcia's improvement, it is not inconceivable that it will be the aging Frenchman.
