Real Madrid squeezed Real Sociedad in the Copa del Rey semi-final 5-4 on halfway through the week, and although there was certainly a party about their passage, the reaction in the media and the aftermath was not one of Euphoria. For the first time in five years, Los Blancos admitted four times at home on one side that was not called Barcelona.
Real Madrid lost the game 4-3 in the normal time (4-4 on aggregated), needed a late comeback inspired by Vinicius Junior and ended by Antonio Rudiger in extra time to reach the final, where they encounter their booglival. However, there was a sense of frustration at the Santiago Bernabeu, when Real Sociedad ran the best part of an hour of Riot. This came only a few days after Leganes caused significant problems for Los Blancos in the Bernabeu, causing whistles of the home crowd to provoke.
According to Relo, there is a lot of frustration of the Real Madrid dressing and coaching staff about their game so far. They would rather play better and be able to control the ball better, but their recent results have been taken as evidence that, despite their defects, their attacking talent is sufficient to overcome any challenge.
Carlo Ancelotti remains that if there is a commitment of the players without the ball, they can win titles. Given the firepower in the team, a degree of defensive firmness and organization would be sufficient to win games, even at the highest level. That said, the Italian knows that his attacking quartet of Vinicius Junior, Kylian Mbappe, Rodrygo is going and Jude Bellingham has to be at their best to make that work.
Ancelotti confirmed during the week that he had threatened to take off Vinicius if he did not work harder against Real Sociedad, and it was the Brazilian who then made the difference. He also repeated a similar thought as the above story prior to their draw with Valencia, and admitted that they take certain risks defensively to facilitate their attacking bravery.
