Real Madrid face Xabi Alonso competition from La Liga rivals

Real Madrid could be looking for a new manager this summer, but they would not be the only La Liga club in its position, as Real Sociedad announced on Thursday that the long-term head coach Imanol Alguacil will continue when his contract ends at the end of the 2024-25 season.

The task of replacing Alguacil now starts for La Real, and they have already drawn up a shortlist that consists of different names. And as Diario as revealed, some are more realistic than others.

Girona chief coach Michel Sanchez has been on the Radar of La Real for a while, but the disastrous season of the Catalans has seen his stock in Donostia-San Sebastian fall. Moreover, there is concerns about having to pay a fee to take him to the club, since his contract only calls in the following summer. But for now he is still a leading candidate.

La Real is also considering promoting from the inside with the current Sanse head coach Sergio Francisco, who is very highly appreciated within the club. And another manager who coached the B team is also in the radar, which is Xabi Alonso.

Alonso is strongly linked to taking over Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid, but he is also an option for La Real – albeit, he is very much a dream signature. His release clause in Bayer Leverkusen is probably affordable, but it can be difficult to convince him to return, although they want to do their best in this regard.

La Real's interest in Alonso could certainly cause some doubts at Real Madrid, especially if the decision is made for Ancelotti to leave his position at the end of the season.
