Real Madrid finalising deal for €50m left-back signing

Real Madrid looks like they are getting a deal for left back Alvaro Carreras this week, while trying to bring a third signing for the club World Cup. Los Blancos wanted to renew their defense before they went to the United States, and Carreras will follow Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen through the door.

At the end of May, Carreras appeared as the highest target of Real Madrid, while they switched their attention to the left place, with Xabi Alonso apparently just as convinced by the current options Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia. For his part, Carreras was very happy to sign for Los Blancos, who had previously spent time on the Real Madrid Academy, and some time ago a deal concluded on personal conditions.

The Portuguese side hoped to keep Carreras for the club World Cup itself, but have now agreed to do the deal for the end of the temporary transfer window, which ends on 10 June. Benfica will have the feeling that they have come to the right side of the negotiations in general.

Initially, Real Madrid had hoped to seal the deal for around € 40 million, but Marca says that they will pay his full release clause of € 50 million. The last details of the deal are completed according to their information, a week after it was declared for the first time. Benfica will make the details of the deal public after completion.

It seems very likely that Real Madrid will now try to move on one of Mendy or Garcia this summer. Financially it may be more logical to sell Mendy because of his higher wages, but Garcia is the one who is interested in the Premier League and Serie A. It also means that Los Blancos will drop the chase for Alejandro Grimaldo, who was their alternative to Carreras at a cheaper price. Atletico Madrid and Barcelona go to the pole position for his signature.
