Real Madrid is said to be in conversation to sign the former Manchester United Academy star Alvaro Carreras from Benfica.
The Spanish left side was added to Manchester United of Los Blancos in 2022 and played two seasons in the youth teams of the Red Devils.
Carreras was named player of the year under 23 of the year in 2022, before he had a loan spell at Preston.
He also spent time on loan in Granada and Benfica during the 2023-24 season, where the Portuguese giants activated a clause in his contract to sign him for £ 5 million last summer.
Carreras left Old Trafford without having made a competitive appearance for the club.
Man United has a back-back clause of £ 15 million for the 22-year-old, but chose not to activate it in the transfer star of January, instead signed Patrick Dorgu van Lecce.
According to athletics, Real Madrid has now opened conversations to sign the 22-year-old prior to the FIFA Club World Cup this summer.
Carreras has a release clause of £ 42 million in his Benfica contract, which runs until 2029, but Los Blancos is said to negotiate a lower fee.
The report claims that Carreras will communicate his wish to leave Benfica after the Portuguese cup final against Sporting Lisbon on Sunday.
Carreras played 40 games this season in all matches for Benfica, scored four goals and offers five assists.
He was part of the Benfica side that won the Portuguese League Cup earlier this season.
Real Madrid reportedly focused on Carreras while the club is ahead of rebuilding their defense this summer.
The Spanish giants must already sign Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth in a £ 50 million deal.
The newly drained Spanish international was confirmed last week.
Real Madrid is also expected to sign Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold, after he confirmed that he would leave the Premier League champions when his contract ends at the end of the season.
The deals occur on the expected arrival of Xabi Alonso as a manager, with the departing Bayer Leverkusen -Baas ready to replace Carlo Ancelotti, who will take the lead over Brazil.
The early transfer company of Real Madrid this summer will occur on the extensive World Cup of the club, who is reportedly focused as a priority by the club.
Real Madrid will be confronted with Al Hilal, Pachuca and Red Bull Salzburg in the group phases of the 32 team tournament in the United States.
