Real Madrid have decided that after Toni Kroos looked a little lost in midfield, they will strengthen that part of the pitch next summer. Their priority is Martin Zubimendi.
The Real Sociedad star will be available for €60 million but must persuade him to make the move and beat the competition. Diario AS therefore explains that Atalanta midfielder Ederson dos Santos has been identified as a possible alternative.
His performance against Los Blancos in the Champions League impressed them in December. A new signing could see Aurelien Tchouameni leave the club, and Ederson would also be available for around €60 million. Atletico Madrid and Barcelona have both looked at Ederson in the past, with Atletico having a €55 million bid rejected last summer before signing for Conor Gallagher. Yet the Madrid newspaper says that Atalanta will facilitate a departure, because the departure of Teun Koopmeiner to Juventus rules out Ederson's own move.
The 25-year-old certainly hasn't blinked as Atalanta have put in an excellent performance, with the Brazilian at the heart of their current Scudetto title, and bid to qualify in the top eight of the Champions League. Ederson also recently made his debut for Brazil.
