Real Madrid injury record: 23 injuries in 20 games
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has cut a somewhat beleaguered figure in recent weeks, and while that metaphor is generally used less literally, the Italian coach is running out of resources and counting his victims. This week a report emerged that Los Blancos are most concerned about their fitness preparation and not Ancelotti's management, and with good reason.
One or more players have been injured in 8 of Real Madrid's last 11 games, with Eduardo Camavinga the latest with a hamstring problem. Diario AS reports that Los Blancos have already suffered 23 injuries this season despite playing just 20 games. Seven of their players are currently injured, but twelve have been on the treatment table in the last eight games.
Two of their season-ending injuries came to Eder Militao and Dani Carvajal, while Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni, Brahim Diaz and Dani Ceballos have all spent more than a month on the sidelines due to single injuries.
If things don't improve, Los Blancos could be reminded of a season in which Los Blancos suffered more than 60 injuries in a single campaign under Zinedine Zidane. While Ancelotti has clearly been far from perfect this season, it would be difficult to judge anyone's work under such pressure. Not only is he missing key players, but it is also difficult to settle for a system or formation without any continuity in the players available. Real Madrid's selection was already on the thin side, but now seems seriously understaffed after the wave of injuries. The well-known fitness coach Antonio Pintus is also coming under increasing pressure.
