During Carlo Ancelotti's term of office, Real Madrid often overlooked La Fabrica's rising talent for the first team, but things can be set to change now that Xabi Alonso has taken the lead at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Ancelotti has regularly overlooked the young talent of the club, even in injury crises, apart from when he called Raul Asencio during the last season in Real Madrid. But with the new era that has now started in Los Blancos, there are opportunities for La Fabrica -talents to impress new head coach Alonso.
And one of those who are being healed for a promotion to the first team is Joan Martinez, as reported by Diario ALS.
Martinez made waves when he was called up for the pre-season tour of Real Madrid through the United States last summer, and in high-profile friendly competitions he impressed. But he was unable to be involved in the first team after tearing his front cruciate ligament during a training session in August.
Since then he has had his way back to the full fitness, where he is now nearby. And the idea is that he is Real Madrid's sixth center-back for the 2025-26 season, behind Dean Huijsen, Eder Militao, Antonio Rudiger, Asencio and David Alaba.
Depending on the system that Alonso uses, Martinez was able to see a considerable amount of playing time next season. The 43-year-old used three center backs in Bayer Leverkusen, but it is expected that he will only use two at Real Madrid-Dit at least is the case during the World Cup of Club.
The call on Martinez came from Real Madrid officials, who look at the 17-year-old very high. In addition to Huijsen and Asencio, he is seen as a future pillar in the Bernabeu.
