Real Madrid linked with Dutch alternative in defence with €60m price tag
Real Madrid are still looking to strengthen their defense next summer after the collapse of a deal for Leny Yoro and serious injuries to David Alaba and Eder Militao. One name linked to them last summer remains on their radar: Ajax's Jorrel Hato.
The 18-year-old has mainly operated as a left back for the Dutch giants and has already scored seven goals in his 23 appearances for Ajax this season. However, Hato is seen as someone who could operate as a central or left back. With Fran Garcia potentially leaving next year, Hato could help fill the void left by the ex-Rayo Vallecano man.
Sport says it could partly depend on the development of Raul Asencio this season. Hato's expected price tag is in the region of €60m, with a number of Premier League sides linked with him, but Los Blancos are said to be keen to bring that fee down.
Hato already has five caps for the Netherlands and certainly fits the profile of Real Madrid's recent transfer activity. That said, Los Blancos were absolutely sold when they signed Yoro and wouldn't go above €40 million for the Frenchman. Their contract situations are different: Hato is under contract until 2028, but if they compete with Premier League clubs they risk being repriced.
