Carlo Ancelotti has had a fantastic second spell at Real Madrid, although rumors of his departure have never been far away. His future was under scrutiny earlier this season, and with ongoing rumors that Xavi Alonso could be heading to the Santiago Bernabeu, there is a chance he could leave next summer.
Ancelotti is still under contract until 2026, but Real Madrid may try to sign Alonso at the end of the season. If that happens, AS Roma could move for the Italian, as La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MD) have reported that they have him on a two-man shortlist. Former Juventus head coach Max Allegri is the other name Roma are considering as manager for next season and beyond.
Ancelotti was expected to retire if he leaves Real Madrid, although Roma clearly feel he can be convinced to return to his homeland.
