Real Madrid open talks for 19-year-old Spanish midfielder

Real Madrid are hoping to strengthen their academy and by proxy their Castilla side in January, and one of the targets they have identified is Elche teenager Rodrigo Mendoza. However, there is still a way to go before they make a deal.

According to Relevo, Real Madrid have opened talks to buy Mendoza, who has made 15 appearances this season and contributed a few assists and a few goals in the Segunda and Copa del Rey. But Elche have dug their feet in so far and the amounts Real Madrid have received have not been enough. Los Ilicitanos are on target with Mendoza signed in 2026, but Real Madrid also have competition from other clubs to consider.

Mendoza came through Elche's youth academy and has been on the fringes under Eder Sarabia this season, contributing from the bench. He has also worked his way through the ranks of the Spanish youth categories, reaching the under-19 side, having previously played for the under-18 and under-17 sides.
