Real Madrid receive positive response from Arsenal star over interest

Real Madrid have two of their top three centre-backs in their 30s, with the third out for the season due to a second cruciate ligament injury in the past two years. Although local media say this is not a priority position for next summer, Los Blancos are scouring the market for possible options.

One of the players they like is Arsenal defender William Saliba. The France international has become a rock for Mikel Arteta, and Sport say he has not only met all their filters for a top signing, but has also received positive feedback from his camp regarding a potential move. Saliba has a contract until 2027 and the Catalan newspaper explains that he will ask for a transfer if Los Blancos make a huge offer, somewhere in the region of a hundred million euros or more. Arsenal, in turn, is not interested in a sale.

However, the Gunners will have to consider their options over the next six months. If they can't get a new contract with Saliba in the coming year, they risk losing him at a lower price, or even seeing Saliba out of contract. If they feel a deal can't be done for him, a sale this summer would make sense, although as Los Blancos have shown of late, they generally prefer players see their deals expire before they make a deal.
