Real Madrid are eyeing several high-profile signings for the summer transfer window, although this one looks set to fall through – that is, for leading left-back Alphonso Davies.
Davies has been on the club's radar for some time and the idea of signing him in the summer after his contract with Bayern Munich expires was very attractive. However, it is increasingly unlikely that the Canadian international will be available for free at the end of the season.
Bayern offered Davies a new contract earlier this week, and a deal is said to be very close. As such, Diario AS have reported that Real Madrid are beginning to accept that they will not sign the 24-year-old.
Left back has been a problem position for Real Madrid this season, so Davies' arrival was necessary. Now that his arrival is no longer expected, it will be interesting to see if someone else is brought in to compete with Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia.
