Real Madrid has reportedly reached an agreement with veteran goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to renew his contract. The Belgian Shot stopper remains one of the most crucial players in the Real Madrid team and still offers important saves for Los Blancos.
So much was clear during the club World Cup, when Courtois stopped a Late Borussia Dortmund-Comback with a brilliant rescue in stop time to secure their passage to the semi-final. Even if he was powerless to prevent Paris Saint-Germain preventing riot, Courtois still made a number of strong saves to prevent the score from becoming one-sided.
According to both Fabrizio Romano and Matteo Moretto, both have reported that Courtois has been reached a deal to stay in the club until 2027. The two parties have been in conversation for several months and Los Blancos still sees the 33-year-old as an answer for a few years, despite his increasing number of injuries.
There had been a suggestion that they could move for the new keeper of Barcelona, Joan Garcia, who could have been his successor, but Real Madrid is not yet willing to continue from Courtois, nor had backup Andriy Lunin a clear exit route.
For a large part of the last decade, Real Madrid has established a policy that players receive only one year of contract innovations that are being tackled in the last year of their deal. The current Courtois deal runs until 2026, which means that it will be a two -year commitment and an exception to the rule.
The club has the feeling that his legs are not an outfield player, his legs are less a problem to consider because of the age, but otherwise the extraordinary level of Courtois remains above that with the best in the game. Yet it remains considerable, since Toni Kroos and Luka Modric were subject to the same policy.
