Real Madrid set out plan for 2025 summer transfer window with two key priorities

Real Madrid tend to have their plans ready for next summer relatively early, especially when they are looking for top players. They have already identified their needs for next season.

Los Blancos believe they need to strengthen in two key positions: right back and central midfield, Diario AS reports. One to replace the retired Toni Kroos, a midfielder who can organize his play with two important goals ahead. Another to soften the blow of Dani Carvajal's injury.

Real Madrid are in talks to free Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold next summer and are optimistic about the possibility of making that happen. They are also in talks with Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies as a possible signing, but there is less certainty over a deal for him. They would like to take advantage of the opportunity to sign him on a free transfer, but it won't be considered a disaster if he doesn't either.

Perhaps the most surprising part of their plans is that they are not prioritizing a centre-back move. They believe that the emergence of Raul Asencio and the return of David Alaba from injury should provide them with sufficient cover for next season. That's despite the fact that Eder Militao is likely to be absent for much of 2025, although Aurelien Tchouameni is another option they will rely on for cover at the position.

Carlo Ancelotti has had to deal with injuries this season and after more than a year of absence there is also nervousness about Alaba's comeback. At 33, a return to his best could be difficult, while Ancelotti has largely trusted Tchouameni over Asencio in defence.
