Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has cut a much sullen figure than last season, no doubt as a result of some of this season's results. However, he has also shown a certain annoyance, which it is suggested is not exclusively about the public criticism, but rather about the internal criticism.
There has been speculation in recent weeks that one or two losses could put Ancelotti's job in jeopardy, with detailed reports emerging about exactly what the hierarchy at the club has felt about what he is doing wrong. Speaking about Cadena SER, Antonio Romero has suggested that sporting director Santiago Solari was among the figures frustrated by Ancelotti – and also one of the objects of the Italian's irritation.
“Although it may sound strange, we are all human, and I can imagine that in his head he will be thinking: I have just won La Liga and the Champions League and in the first bad streak of the season with a lot of injuries and a lot of the problems they tell me that Solari has become angry, well, it is human for him to be angry.
“I would say to me that that irritation does not seem to be with the media, with what he hears and reads, but rather with a disappointment with the people within the club who perhaps think the team is walking away from him.” .”
One of Ancelotti's greatest skills is his ability to rise through the ranks at Real Madrid and dictate the squad. There are few coaches who can handle strong players like Silvio Berlusconi or in this case Florentino Perez as skillfully as Ancelotti. Given Solari's own record as a manager, Ancelotti may not appreciate strong input from the Argentine.
