Caroline Weir has joined Scott McTominay to secure a unique Scottish Double after the couple on the shortlists were mentioned for the Ballon d'Or Awards of 2025 yesterday.
As Mail Sport revealed Thursday, Napoli's Serie A winner McTominay is the first male Scottish player to be nominated for the honor since Ally McCoist in 1987.
And now Real Madrid's Weir has written history by becoming the first Scottish woman to be nominated for the Ballon d'Or Feminin – who was first presented in 2018 – after being confirmed on a shortlist of 30 for the prestigious individual prize.
Scotland -attacker Weir, 30, enjoyed a new strong campaign for the Spanish side after fought back of nine months with a serious knee injury.
She scored in her comeback match before she scored 14 times in all competitions when Real Madrid finished second in La Liga F.
She has won 112 caps and scored 19 goals for Scotland, and represents her country on Euro 2017 and World Cup in 2019.
Scotland -Mctominay, 28, was nominated for the most coveted individual prize of European football after having led to the competition title in a dream first season there, and scored 16 goals in 48 performances in all competitions for Antonio Conte's Side.
The late Denis law remains the only shot that the Ballon d'Or has won, when he collected the prize in 1964 after a season of 46 goals for Manchester United.
“The Scottish FA is expanding its congratulations to Scott McTominay and Caroline Weir, both of which are mentioned on the shortlists for the Ballon d'Or Awards of 2025,” read a statement from Hampden last night.
