Real Madrid star Rodrygo Goes has found plenty of opportunities to celebrate goals over the past two months, and the Brazilian has incorporated an actor and WWE star into his routine. John Cena, perhaps the most iconic of the entertainment genre, is a hero to Rodrygo.
After eight goals and three assists in his last 10 appearances, Rodrygo used Cena's signature “You can't see me” celebration, waving his hand in front of his face. After scoring a goal against RB Salzburg in the Champions League, Rodrygo was asked about his new nod to the American star.
“He's been an idol of mine since I was a kid, I always liked him. And I don't know, I had to create a party, a lot of people told me that, and so I went for John Cena's, because I love him,” he told Relevo.
Rodrygo is often mentioned as a potential victim of Kylian Mbappe's arrival and posted a WhatsApp story in August defending his presence in the team despite claiming he had been hacked. The incident occurred after the newspaper's front page welcomed the 'BMV': Bellingham, Vinicius and Mbappe, with Rodrygo standing out for his negligence.
“I don't have to say anything about my game today. I have the trust of my teammates and I really enjoy playing with them. The controversies over whether or not to appear in the photo with Mbappe, Bellingham and Vinicius are up to you. I do my job like I always have.”
Despite Carlo Ancelotti declaring that Rodrygo 'deserves' to be an undisputed starter after the win in Salzburg, there are still questions over whether the Italian can afford to feature all four of his attacking stars in big games. Things backfired recently against Barcelona, with a number of reports claiming Ancelotti would change his approach.
