With Eer Militão and Dani Carvajal already absent, Carlo Ancelotti has had a big potential problem in the defense.
Real Madrid has not had any injury problems for searching lately and Carlo Ancelotti has now been given a huge potential blow, just 10 days before the delicious Champions League Knockout Playoff first leg against Manchester City.
Antonio Rüdiger was injured against Espanyol: what happened?
In the LaLiga match on Saturday to Espanyol, central defender Antonio Rüdiger was forced from the field after just 15 minutes, in which younger Raúl Asencio took his place.
The German fell to the ground and grabbed the back of his right leg just after it protruded in an attempt to block a cross. There was no Espanyol player in the area, with a muscle injury almost certainly the cause.
With just over a week to go to Madrid Face City in the bid to reach the Champions League last 16, there will now be serious questions about the availability of more rüdeliger. Even if he plays, it seems unlikely that he will be 100% fit.
Real Madrid's defensive injuries
Ancelotti is already without the first cord right back Dani Carvajal and the normal central defensive partner of Rüdeliger, Eder Militão, both recover from ACL tears. David Alaba is now available again after having sustained the same injury, but would go into a huge European game that has hardly played more than a year.
