Real Madrid chose not to replace Toni Kroos in the summer, after the German veteran retired, hoping that their current options would increase in his absence. However, their current movements on the transfer market suggest that they will now tackle the position, and more pertinent his role.
The idea for Los Blancos was that Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni would take more responsible in the absence of Kroos alongside Fede Valverde, but a combination of injuries, needs elsewhere and simple performance levels Los Blancos missed in the middle of the field. Carlo Ancelotti has used Dani Ceballos and Luka Modric more often than he could have imagined.
Recent reports in Spain have suggested that the real Sociedad -midfielder Martin Zubimendi is their top objective for midfield in the summer. The Spain International has a release clause of € 60 million and has been chased by Premier League Giants Liverpool and Arsenal, with the Gunners who apparently hold conversations with Zubimendi. They also made him one of their priorities and are thought that they push hard for a movement, with manager Mikel Arteta the driving force behind it.
However, the athletic report that conversations between Los Blancos and Zubimendi 'increase' in the background. Originally linked to the Star Rodri Hernandez of Manchester City, his cruciate ligament injury and the costs of getting him out of the city are obstacles, while 25-year-old Zubimendi is younger and cheaper.
It is still to be seen whether more voorags come in for Zubimendi and what his preference is. The Basque Lynchpin would be attracted by a switch to the Premier League and shares an agent with Arteta, who also left La Real and ended up in England. If Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso would end in Real Madrid, as reported, then that can swing the balance, such as the ex-Bayern Munich-Man Zubimendi's idol.
