Real Madrid youngster Endrick Felipe is less than six months into his journey into European football, and he has already seen the ugliest side of it. The Brazilian teenager has been the victim of racist abuse and other horrible comments over the past two weeks.
Endrick came on for the final eleven minutes of Los Blancos' 2-0 defeat to Liverpool, but was involved in an unfortunate accident that injured defender Ibrahima Konate. That ruled him out for several weeks, including their crucial Premier League match against Manchester City, which the Reds eventually won 2–0.
However, Sport says many Liverpool 'fans' haven't let Endrick forget it. His social media posts, especially those shortly before the Liverpool game, have led to horrific abuse against the striker, who only turned 18 in July. Many of them wished Endrick a serious injury, while many more called the Brazilian a monkey.
Racial abuse is on the rise in Spanish football, but Champions League nights have generally been a much less problematic affair. However, this latest incident is another terrible chapter.
