Real Madrid is expected to be busy this summer if they are preparing to start a new era, but their activity will not only be central around transfers. New contracts will also be handed out, and one of them is expected to go to the first-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
Although it has been a very disappointing season for Real Madrid, and especially from a defensive position, Courtois has done little wrong. He remains one of the most important players of the club, and it is expected that he will stay as one of the first names on the team magazine in the future.
In the coming weeks, Real Madrid will try to complete contract negotiations with Courtois and its representatives, and have reported relevant that the club's offer will go against one of their policy.
Real Madrid has often offered annual contracts to players older than 30 years and since he is 32, Courtois falls into this category. But the tradition will be broken with the Belgium International, which will get an extension of two years.
Courtois sees its current deal expired in 2026, at the end of next season. But his new contract will withstand him until the end of the 2027-28 campaign if he were 35 years old. He should still be able to operate at a level of world class at the moment, although he returned to international football earlier this year.
The expectation is that Courtois would remain until 2028 if the starting goalkeeper of Real Madrid would remain, although he could be challenged more in the future than with the current Back -up Andriy Lunin, whose possible departure could mean this summer that a new signing may be needed. And at this stage, club bosses have identified their desired target as Joan Garcia from Espanyol, who this season has been one of the best keepers in La Liga.
