The club has announced that the process of electing a president has begun.
Real Madrid has initiated the process of calling the next elections for its presidency and Board of Directors. The announcement was made via an official statement on Thursday afternoon, January 2.
The statement specified that the election process will formally begin next week, on January 7, at 5:30 p.m. This marks the start of the process of electing the club's new president and board of directors.
The current term of Florentino Pérez and his Board of Directors, which began on April 13, 2021, after no rival candidates contested the last elections, will expire this spring.
Pérez has been president for two terms: first from July 17, 2000 to February 27, 2006 and then from June 1, 2009 to the present.
Will Florentino Pérez resign as president of Real Madrid?
He is widely expected to be re-elected unopposed, as was the case in previous elections. The 2009, 2013, 2017 and 2021 elections were all decided within thirteen days, as Pérez was the only candidate after the filing deadline.
According to the club's statutes, the election process involves strict rules.
The notice must be posted on the appropriate notice board at the club's headquarters and published in at least two Madrid-based newspapers. Candidates have ten days from the official announcement to submit their applications, as provided in Article 40.A of the Articles of Association.
The eligibility requirements for candidacy as president of Real Madrid are as follows:
In addition, each candidacy must have a minimum of ten members and a maximum of twenty members, one of whom must be designated as a presidential candidate. These rules guarantee the integrity and exclusivity of the election process, while preserving the club's age-old traditions.
