Real Madrid to put contract talks with defender on hold until the end of the season

Real Madrid have finally given meaningful minutes to a youth product this season, with centre-back Raul Asencio threatening to become the first La Fabrica product to break into the first team since Lucas Vazquez or Dani Carvajal. Los Blancos plan to hand him a new contract.

The first contacts have already been made with its agents, Relevo says, but a new deal is not expected soon. Talks will continue from 2025 onwards and are unlikely to be completed until the end of this season, which is usual for their academy talents. However, Real Madrid are happy with his progress, and president Florentino Perez in particular is happy with what he has seen.

He won't be part of Castile's squad next season, that's for sure. Asencio could earn himself a first-team spot next season, or he could be sold, including a sell-on fee percentage, like Rafa Marin, Nico Paz or Sergio Arribas recently. Asencio is also in no rush to sign a new deal and will give Los Blancos priority regardless of the interest that comes. His current contract expires in 2026.

Recent history would suggest that Real Madrid are looking at a healthy profit for Asencio rather than a long-term future in the first team. It won't help him that Carlo Ancelotti prefers more experienced players over younger ones. Likewise, Real Madrid have a dwindling number of players who have come through the academy and Spanish academies, and they are aware that they need a minimum for European competition teams.
