Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin was an important role in their triumphs in La Liga and the Champions League last season, but was reportedly deeply saddled by the choice to return to Thibaut Courtois for the final against Borussia Dortmund. The Ukraine international was on the market last summer and will be again this year.
That is according to Diario ALS. The 26-year-old wrote a somewhat surrpective contract renewal until 2030 in September 2024, despite the ties with a departure. However, this was a measure to protect Real Madrid, which Lunin gave a wage increase, but agreed with Lunin and Agent Jorge Mendes to listen to offers this summer and to allow him to leave when a suitable offer arrives. Without a sign of Courtois, the starting place will let go, Lunin wants to go somewhere that gives him number one is Dustig.
When that movement is completed, Real Madrid will feel comfortable because they have a backup plan. When Lunin continues, their plan is to reduce Kepa Arrizabalaga, which was on loan last season in the Santiago Bernabeu. Originally starting as number one in the absence of Courtois, despite losing his place to Lunin, he convinced those in the club of his value and is seen as the perfect alternative to Courtois. Kepa also expressed a desire to continue in Real Madrid.
This season the 30-year-old is on loan in Bournemouth, where he has been a starter under Andoni Iraola. Kepa has a contract until 2026 with Ouder Chelsea, but it seems that his future is over at Stamford Bridge and they will entertain offers for the Spanish international, with only a year about his contract. He would probably be a cheap and reliable alternative for Courtois, which despite maintaining his form, missed five games due to injuries, as well as the Copa del Rey competitions outside.
