Real Madrid top Deloitte Money League with €1bn earned during 2023-24 season

Real Madrid have become one of the best-managed clubs in the world in recent years, led by president Florentino Perez, who was recently confirmed to remain in the role until at least 2029. Not only are things going great on the field, but it also looks good on the field.

The Deloitte Money League rankings were released on Thursday and according to ESPN, Real Madrid are at the top of the pile. The figures for the 2023-2024 season show that Los Blancos generated €1 billion in revenue, which is more than €200 million more than their biggest challengers, Manchester City.

Real Madrid earned almost €250 million in matchday revenue, of which €316 million came from television rights. Moreover, they generated most of their money from commercial revenues, of which only €500 million came in in the 2023-2024 season.

The next highest team in La Liga is Barcelona, who are in sixth place – they are behind Real Madrid, Man City, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and Bayern Munich. Remarkably, they earned a whopping €140 million less than their Clasico rivals when it came to matchday revenue, although they will put that down to not being at the Spotify Camp Nou, where they were towards the end of hope to return this season.

Atletico Madrid are twelfth in the table and have earned less than half of their city rivals' turnover (€409.5 million). In terms of commercial revenue, Los Colchoneros are well below everyone else in the top twelve, so club bosses will know where to make money to compete with the rest of Europe's elite.

Overall, it is a ranking that was quite predictable for the Spanish clubs. Real Madrid are undoubtedly top dog when it comes to raising money, and it's also one of the reasons why they feel very comfortable spending big sums in the transfer market when necessary, which they did in the summer could also do.
