Real Madrid is clear that a new central defender must be signed in the coming years, and a player will be sought at the highest level. One of their leading goals for the position is William Saliba van Arsenal, who is generally considered one of the best center-backs in world football.
Central defense has been a point of care for Real Madrid in the last few seasons, mainly due to injury problems to Eer Militao and David Alaba. Moreover, the last and Antonio Rudiger both come to the last years of their respective career, so they have to be replaced.
Real Madrid was planning to get on the market this summer, but the rise of Raul Asencio has led to the signing of a new central defender no longer a priority for 2025. However, it is a position that still needs to be tackled relatively quickly, and Saliba is high on the shortlist established by the sports department of the club.
Despite the fact that Saliba has repeated his dedication to Arsenal in recent weeks, Relo says that Real Madrid will make a “concrete attempt” to sign the French international, although the date for their pursuit has not been revealed.
Signing Saliba will be far from simple for Arsenal, because Arsenal regards him as one of their non-transferable players. A large selection would only be necessary for the Premier League side's consideration, although Real Madrid has shown that they are willing to spend a big way to sign the right player, such as at Jude Bellingham in 2023.
There is no doubt that Saliba would be an excellent signature for Real Madrid, and it will be very interesting to see if/when they make their move. Arsenal must be alert, that is, certainly.
