Real Madrid willing to blow up deal for defender over €50m price

Real Madrid has shown in recent history that if they feel that a player is not worth what his club asks for it, they are willing to lose them. Benfica left back Alvaro Carreras is their top choice for the left place, but Los Blancos notices that they do not close a deal.

Last week it was reported that Real Madrid had already completed a deal for Carreras, and he also seems to have agreed personal conditions with the club. However, the deal has to continue on a disagreement about its price.

Carreras, 22, has a release clause of € 50 million in his contract, and Benfica has so far refused to give to that price tag. Marca says they are willing to facilitate a more compelling payment structure than the release clause. Los Blancos would like to bring that price down and have made it clear that they are not going to pay that amount and are willing to run away from the deal. For their part, Benfica also wants to get what they can do for Carreras, knowing that Manchester United has also been set to a large part of money.

Real Madrid has been associated with various left backs in recent months, not least another former Castilla graduate in Miguel Gutierrez. Real Madrid has a return option of € 8 million on the Girona man. The best -placed alternative, however, is a former graduate La Masia in Alejandro Grimaldo from Bayer Leverkusen, who played his best football under the new manager Xabi Alonso.

The goal for Los Blancos was to offer Alonso a renewed backline for the club World Cup, and right back Trent Alexander-Arnold and central defender Dean Huijsen already signed. Carreras was the left -wing back that should arrive for the World Cup Club, but if they cannot close a deal with Benfica, Grimaldo has made it clear that he would be open to a move.
