Real Oviedo eye former Real Madrid flop on La Liga return

Newly promoted Real Oviedo is looking for reinforcements prior to their return to La Liga in the 2025/26 season.

Led by the Mercurial Santi Cazorla, the club made an incredible promotion back to the top flight via the Segunda Division Playoffs last month.

That brought the Asturians back to the big time with Cazorla De Hartslag for the first time since 2000/01 and it is expected to sign an extension to complete a year ago in La Liga.

However, while the Asturians are building the new campaign, the club is struggling to add experience to the Veljko Paunovic team.

The deal to secure veteran striker Salomon Rondon on a seasonal loan from Pachuca is a large coup, but more is needed.

According to reports from Marca, the former Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic on the transfer radar on the Estadio Carloa Tartiere has broken up.

Rumor has that Paunovic is open to a connection with his colleague Serbian, despite the striking problems of the latter at Los Blancos.

Jovic joined Real Madrid in a € 60 million deal in 2019 – after a sensational season with Eintracht Frankfurt – but his three seasons in the Spanish capital were a disaster with only three La Liga goals.

He was eventually moved to Fiorentina in 2022, followed by two years at AC Milan, who none of all served to breathe new life into his career.

The 27-year-old is now available as a free agent, after the end of his contract with the San Siro, and Real Oviedo puts together a contract offer.

Real Oviedo is not only in their transfer interest, with a rumor package also presented by the Mexican side Cruz Azul, and inland rivals are hunting.

Rumor has Jovic prefer a stay in Europe, but his wage requirements must fall to seal a switch to Oviedo.
