Trent Alexander-Arnold has confirmed that at the end of the season he will make an emotional exit from Liverpool and it has now been revealed why he chooses to leave
The appetite of Trent Alexander-Arnold to test himself outside the Premier League has made his decision to leave Liverpool. The right back of England has officially confirmed that he will leave Anfield at the end of his contract.
It comes after Alexander -Arnold's contract is allowed to relax – and it is generally expected to join the Spanish giants Real Madrid to a free transfer. And it is that opportunity that ultimately led him to decide to put his shimmering Liverpool career to an end.
Mirror Football understands that Alexander-Arnold was happy in Liverpool and conversations were held during a long-term stay. Sports director Richard Hughes made a new deal one of his priorities when he arrived at the club last summer.
The club had already made contact with Alexander-Arnold, prepared with Liverpool to make him the best-paid right back in the Premier League. Controls were considered constructive with an offer on the table for the player.
But in the end the chance of a new challenge abroad was too good for the English star to reject, something that he made clear in his announcement to fans of Liverpool. He went to social media and said: “I think the decision is for me personally.
“To change the environment, challenge myself elsewhere. It's not about wanting to find something better, it's about me and my personal journey as a player and I think it's the right time now to experience that. People will not be happy with the decision, but it is something that I feel that I have to do on my journey and my career.”
Alexander-Arnold doubled that claim in an interview with the official website of Liverpool. Asked if he could have stayed at the club, he replied: “Hundred percent, a huge opportunity.
“I have the full confidence in the manager and the staff and the club in the future. It is not about thinking that we are not going to fight for titles or fighting for the season of the trophies, because I knew from the first few moments with the manager that he was a winner, he wanted to win things.

“And you saw that this season with the way we played. So it was never all about having no confidence in that, it just came down to what I felt I needed, and that is a change.
“That is something that I have to do on my personal journey as a person, but also as a player and a professional, to challenge myself elsewhere. I feel like a challenge in another environment that I have to do as a player.”
Alexander-Arnold inquired Boss Arne Slot a few weeks ago that his future was from Liverpool. Real Madrid is expected to confirm his arrival immediately after seeing a bid in the January transfer window rejected.
