The traditional Joan Gamper -Trophy takes place for the new La Liga season, a curtain booster for the Barcelona fans to see their side before they get into the grip of the competition. It was announced by the club before 10 August, against the Italian side Como, but there are now doubts about whether it can take place in the renovated Camp Nou.
Barcelona would return to their stadium for the first time in two years, but after obtaining a license to keep events on the ground, they are still waiting for a second license that is needed to open the stadium for fans again. The Catalan side has proposed the city council that they could perhaps open the ground for a reduced capacity, only open certain zones and bring around 30,000 fans.
Without the second license of the council, however, Barcelona Camp Nou cannot open to the public at all. The Council has previously expressed doubts about their ability to secure the license on time for the gamper on 10 August, and with good reason. Cadena SER explains that the Council has still not received the relevant documents from Barcelona to fill in the application.
The process takes the tendency to last about five to six months, and although there is also a certain desire to accelerate the bureaucracy of the council, they cannot send inspectors to the site while the application is not completed. The reason that Barcelona did not send the documentation is due to further delays in the work, which has been going on for eight months.
The consequences for the Blaugrana are considerable. It could lead to a major problem in terms of their salary limit, such as without proof of product for the end of August, Barcelona cannot include their VIP lease of € 100 million in their accounts. Moreover, it is now a race by the time for the Blaugrana to be ready for their first League match on September 14 against Valencia.
