Redknapp reveals why playing for Postecoglou’s Tottenham ‘would drive me insane’

Jamie Redknapp has claimed he would hate playing for Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham side, suggesting the head coach's approach would 'drive me crazy'.

Redknapp was part of Sky Sport's line-up of pundits for Tottenham's Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool.

Tottenham came into the semi-final amid a terrible run of form, winning just two of their last eleven games in all competitions.

Postecoglou's side have been hampered by a series of injuries, but he has been criticized for sticking to his attacking approach to matches despite the absences.

When asked if they would have liked to play under Postecoglou, fellow pundits Michael Dawson and Izzy Christiansen admitted they would have appreciated the manager's approach.

“I had Ledley next to me, so it would have gone well,” Dawson said. Adding to Postecoglou's side, he would have needed 'Micky van de Ven next to me.'

Christiansen replied, “Absolutely yes.”

However, Redknapp, who played for Tottenham between 2002 and 2005, admitted that the Australian's perceived unwillingness to adapt to the circumstances would 'drive me crazy'.

'I don't think I would like this. It would drive me crazy,” Redknapp said.

“There has to be another side to the game, it's not just about attacking free-flowing football and trying to blow teams away.

“I would like my manager to say we don't have our best team at the moment, let's find a way to win.

“It's exciting and I understand why the fans enjoy it. But I'm not sure I'd like it because sometimes you get into trouble.”

Former Tottenham defender Dawson commented after Redknapp's comments that Postecoglou had shown signs of adjusting to his line-up against Liverpool.

“We talk about him changing the philosophy, that would never happen,” Dawson said.

“But can he adapt, well, the three in midfield today [Rodrigo] Bentancur, [Yves] Bissouma and [Lucas] Bergvall is a small change.”

However, Spurs were forced to make an early substitution after Bentancur was taken off injured in the opening stages of the match.
